New Years Eve "Crystal" Ball.

Ok, well apparently there aren't a whole ton of exciting
New Year crafts out there. So, I came up with this quick and easy
New Years Ever "Crystal" Ball craft. Not my most creative craft, but hey, it worked!
I explained to the kids that we were going to make our own New Years Eve Balls and they got sort of excited "Oh! I saw that on tv!"..."Yeah! I watched that on New Years Eve!"
So, here we go! 10. 9. 8. 7. 6. 5. 4. 3. 2. 1!

First, I used Word to make this form.
Again, not the most exciting thing, but New Year crafts are hard to come by!

Construcion Paper
White Glue

Using the glue, draw lines or shapes in the circle.

One of my littles wanted to make a heart inside her ball.
Isn't that sweet?

Party Hats.

Aren't these Party Hats fun?
Sure, you can't really wear them on your head,
but with that much "bling" (sequins and confetti) who would want to?
Actually, probably MOST of my lil' kiddos, that's who!

Construction Paper
White Glue
Small Pom-Poms
Party Streamer/Crepe Paper

I cut a bunch of construction paper triangles in nice fresh colors,
opting to leave my Jolly Red and Holly Green in the supply cabinet!
I think we've had enough Red and Green for a while now.

I let the kids go to town with the confetti and sequins
and the glue! They came up with some nice designs.

Here's one of my great secrets:
The "confetti" is from our schools binding machine and it works perfectly for SO many crafts! Every once in a while I go and check the drop slot, where the punch-outs for the bindings go and low-and-behold it's usually full of multi-colored tiny squares! Perfect and free confetti!

When they're done decorating the hat with the sequins and confetti,
they get a long strip (about 18") of party streamer/crepe paper.

The crepe paper works perfectly as fringe.
Just spread some glue on the bottom of the hat and
scrunch up the paper for a layered effect.

Don't forget the pom-pom topper!

Back in the swing of things...

Happy 2011! Wow! Two-Thousand-and-Eleven! Can you believe it? Me neither!

I hope that your Holidays were joyous
this New Year brings you abundant happiness!

Well, I certainly have neglected this blog haven't I? Oops! I guess I just sort of skipped most of November and the whole of December. Which is too bad, because we made many great and easy Thanksgiving, Hannukah and Christmas crafts. Guess those will have to wait until Fall semester returns again!

Since it's a new year now, I'm going to try my hardest to keep up-to-date on the crafts and events from my classroom. Wish me luck!

I hope that you can be inspired to create with a child that you know.
